After a second voyage for the Muscovy Company he was in 1609 commissioned by the Dutch East India Company to make a further exploration, and on this occasion he took his Half Moon 150 miles up the Hudson River. He made his last, tragic voyage in the following year, in the Discovery, of London. This attempt ended in mutiny soon after Discovery had broken free from the ice in Hudson Bay; Hudson, with his son and seven others, was cast adrift in an open boat, and was not seen again.
