Abstract: The Marshall Islands' greatest resources are not natural or physical but rather, cultural and human. As in the past, it will be the resilience of the Marshallese people and their ability to adapt to global market forces that will sustain the economy. As the year 2001 approaches, marking the end of the 15-year Compact of Free Association with the United States, political and social stability will enhance the Marshall Islands' efforts to attract foreign capital and technical expertise in developing its domestic private economy.
