dc.title | CHARACTERIZING THE LIFE HISTORY AND RECREATIONAL FISHERY OF NABETA, INIISTIUS PAVO, IN HAWAI`I
dc.type | Thesis | |
dcterms.abstract | Iniistius pavo is one of five species of razorfish (Labridae), locally referred to as nabeta, that are an important recreationally caught foodfish in Hawai`i. The little documentation on the nabeta fishery shows a serious decline in nabeta catches with no explanation or further research. This study serves to document life history traits and reproductive patters to fill in the gaps of knowledge of I. pavo as well as document trends in the nabeta fishery using social media as a non-traditional source of information. Instagram was datamined using posted catch pictures to determine trends and species associations of nabeta catches and methods were developed to validate the accuracy and repeatability of catch pictures. These methods and the information documented in this study can provide valuable information for management of the nabeta fishery here in Hawai`i and throughout their range.
